Master of Education in Teaching English as a Foreign
Language (M.E. TEFL)
The M.E. TEFL program is a one-year professional
program of intensive coursework for teachers,
teacher trainers, or administrators involved in
teaching English as a Foreign Language in an
international context. The program combines
theoretical principles and frameworks for English
language learning and teaching with the practical
aspects of program and syllabus design and English
language teaching practices.

The M.S. TESOL
qualifies graduates to teach English as a Second
Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language
(EFL).The program is open to both experienced and
prospective language educators, both domestic and
international, who wish to start or upgrade their
ESL or EFL career in the U.S. or abroad.
The program is
designed to be flexible in accommodating the
specific needs of each student and their varying
career objectives while offering maximum interaction
among a multilingual student population.

Master of

(M.E. TEFL)
The M.E. TEFL program
is a one-year professional program of intensive
coursework for teachers, teacher trainers, or
administrators involved in teaching English as a
Foreign Language in an international context. The
program combines theoretical principles and
frameworks for English language learning and
teaching with the practical aspects of program and
syllabus design and English language teaching
practices.
International
applicants must provide a minimum TOEFL score of 79
iBT or 213 CBT, or an IELTS score of 6.0, in order
to be eligible for this program. International
applicants who are admitted with scores below 100 on
the TOEFL iBT or 250 CBT, or below 7.0 on the IELTS,
will be required to take 20 weeks of intensive
English instruction at the USC language Academy,
which begins in the summer prior to the start of M.E.
TEFL courses. A separate application is required
for the USC language Academy. Language Academy
program information and applications are available
at
www.usc.edu/langacad.
The GRE is not
required for application to the TEFL program. Our
target cumulative undergraduate GPA is 3.0 or
above. Official documentation of at least one year
of teaching experience is required for admission to
this program. This document must be on letterhead
with an official seal, be signed by the school
director or principal, include that person’s address
and phone number, and indicate start and end dates
of applicant’s employment.
Applicants who do not
meet target scores but have otherwise competitive
applications may still be considered eligible for
admission and are therefore encouraged to complete
the application process.
